October 28- We believe we are judged
I really enjoyed the discussion this week and how we dug down into the definition of feminisms and the way that society tries to control women. Thinking back on everything we discussed there are so many social things that tie women to an expectation. These include hair styles, hair color, outfits, and even actions and personality. These expectations are also all ways changing and in my opinion they made to seem that if you don't do fallow them you will be an outcast. I am not a very fashionable person, I don't like to go shopping and I'm really not to interested in spending a lot of money on clothing just to keep up with trends. However, sometimes I feel that if I don't ware the crop-top or the ripped jeans people will think I'm weird and will avoid me, and I'm sure that I'm also not the only person who feels this way. Who knows who started this belief that we are all judge for everything we do, whether it was a man or a women, but it is so engraved into our lives that it ways on our mind even if the judging really doesn't happen.
Hi Victoria, I really agree with your point about the expectations that social things hold up and tie to women. Society even shapes the definition of feminism as we discovered in class. The expectations that you talked about are tied to society and very much tied to capitalism and social class definitions. These various physical characteristics and social actions are tied to how people perceive someone else social class. Many advertisers target women particularly more than men concerning their new products that allow people to keep up with the times and seem to fit in.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Victoria, for the post. I agree we are sometimes judged/viewed by others based on our appearance. This is especially true for women. You are right that there is pressure on women, probably more than men, to fit in or be ostracized.
